<p>The 159th FS is groups flying component and has operated the F-16A ADF since September 1986, with a C-12J and C-130H support. It was formed as the 159th Fighter Squadron in February 1947 with F-51Ds at Thomas Cole MAP, Jacksonville. The squadron was the first ANG unit to receive jet aircraft, with P-80s being assigned in August 1948. The unit was called to active service in October 1950 and converted to the F-84E with a deployment to Misawa AB, Japan before returning to state control in July 1952. It became the 159th FIS in 1952 and reverted to F-51s. The 125th received F-86As in 1954 but changed to the P-80C, with the 125th FIG assigned in July 1956. An upgrade to the F-86D was made in August 1956, to the F-86L in June 1959 and to the F-102A one year later. The unit won the F-86D catagory at the 1956 William Tell competition. The Delta Dagger gave way to the Delta Dart in late 1974. The squadron is unique in conducting the air defense role but having a tailcode applied.
